NOTICE: WARNING OF COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials.

Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research". If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use", that user may be liable for copyright infringement.

The Montante Library reserves the right to refuse to accept a copy request if, in its judgment, fulfillment of that request would involve violation of copyright law.

Tipasa Introduction

Welcome to Tipasa- our new Interlibrary Loan service!

Tipasa allows you to:undefined

Request titles not held in the Montante Library collection.

  • Track your requests
  • Check due dates
  • Request renewal on books borrowed

New Features:

  • Enable text messaging or email of notifications from your account
  • Use the same  ID and password that you use for Canvas, DYC email, database access, etc. View your Tipasa account here.

Request an ILL

All current D'Youville students, faculty, staff, and administrators are welcome to make use of our ILL services. There is no charge for this service.

From the library databases:

  • If you want a resource that doesn't have a "full text" link, check Google Scholar to verify it is not available for free elsewhere. Then click on the "Request Item" button and login to Tipasa with your DYC credentials (used for email or Canvas).
  • The form will already be populated with your information. Add any required fields and additional notes or information you have, then click "Submit Request".
  • You will receive an email or text notification (if you chose that option in your profile) when your item is available for viewing.
  • If the database you are in does not have a "Request Item" button, you can copy and paste the information into a blank request form from within your Tipasa account.

From your Tipasa Account:

  • If you log in to your Tipasa account, you can place a request manually. Click on the "Create Request" button on the top left-hand side of the page and enter all of the required identifying information about the item you would like to request. Make sure that you are filling out the correct form for the type of material that you are requesting (Article, Book, or Other). Please note that if information is missing from the request form, it will take us more time to process your request.

Patrons will be notified when loans are ready for pick-up or articles available for download by email or text notifications (if the text option was selected in your patron profile). Most requests for articles will be filled electronically, and will be available for download as a PDF via your online Tipasa account.

Physical items can be retrieved from lockers in the library lobby. Instructions for access will be emailed when your materials are available.

Articles will be available to access in your account for 5 views or 30 days, after which the file disappears. Print or save the article to a personal device if you wish to keep it longer.

An ILL transaction can take less than 24 hours (for some articles received electronically) or up to three or four weeks, depending on several factors, including availability and location(s), time of year and degree of difficulty in locating the item. Print books are shipping very slowly.

Login to your Tipasa account to view book due dates. To renew a book, click on the "Renew" button next to the item you wish to keep longer, a couple days before the due date. Please note- whether the book is renewed or not is determined by the lending library.

Items may be returned in the blue book drop box in front of the library.

  • Overdue fees are $1.00 per day, per item.
  • The borrower is responsible for the replacement cost of any damaged or lost items, plus any fees charged by the lending library.

Textbooks can be requested through ILL, but this is strongly discouraged

Textbook requests are frequently denied, take longer than the 7-10 day turnaround, or cannot be renewed. Students who receive textbooks through ILL cannot keep them for the entire semester.

Currently, the reality of COVID-19 and staff furloughs means we cannot guarantee a 24-hour turnaround for submitting requests.

There is a limit of 15 open requests total per person.

We will only process 5 requests per person per day. We will process more if time permits.

We appreciate your patience and understanding.
