Preparing courses can be difficult. Developing captivating lessons requires significant time and energy, competing with various other faculty responsibilities. Adding video is a popular way to increase engagement, but it not always easy to quickly find high quality video to highlight your lessons.
A recent survey found 96% of teachers use video in class, with 70% stating they do so on a weekly basis. Searching for content was the top complaint with some reporting that they spent up to 7 hours a week on this time consuming task.
The D'Youville Library has some valuable resources to help you quickly create engaging and informative courses.
We offer two premium educational video streaming platforms to assist you on your quest for relevant content. The Kanopy and Films on Demand services can help reduce the frustration of finding video.

They each offer large, easy to search collections. No need to search various providers or scour the Internet. The size and selection available means you are more likely to find content that meets your learning objectives.
They contain over 70,000 title in a wide variety of disciplines. The Kanopy platform includes feature films, documentaries and television shows from around the globe. Films on Demand specializes in education and documentary films covering a wide range of academic disciplines from Arts to Sciences.
Both services include titles from well-known and reputable publishers including BBC, PBS, Criterion and more. No commercials, fees or copyright concerns here - we have subscriptions to these platforms and provide access to the D'Youville community.
Finding videos is easy. You can search by title, keyword or browse through curated and categorized lists.
Each service offers several helpful features including the ability to make and share playlists. Videos and playlists can be embedded or shared via link in Canvas. You can also use the editing tools to create shorter clips that tailor content to your specific lesson plans. We have published detailed instructions on using these features for both Kanopy Streaming and Films on Demand.
